Exams and assignments
To achieve your ambition and gain the result you want, you will need to go through some form of assessment. These are usually exams and assignments.
For the majority of courses, you’ll need to complete a number of assignments as part of your coursework and forward these to your online tutor. Unless stated otherwise, you will have to submit completed coursework online through the Teaching Zone.
There are two types of assignments: tutor-marked assignments, which usually include essays or practical projects, and automated assignments, which include multiple-choice questions.
Assignments are a great way of checking your progress throughout your course, as your tutor will grade and comment on each one, letting you know exactly how you’re doing at every step so you can improve as you go.
You can check the assignments required for a specific course on the courses and qualifications pages under “How is it assessed”.
As always, your tutor will guide you through the process and make sure you are ready before completing an assignment.
You may also be required to take a final assessment at the end of each module, depending on the course you have chosen. This could take the form of coursework, a practical workshop or an exam.
Each course page will tell you about the assessment breakdown and any known extra fees, so you know what you need to do and pay to complete your qualification. Once you enrol and if applicable, you will receive full details of who these fees have to be paid to and when you have to pay them.
For some courses and to achieve your qualification, you may need to sit one or more exams. However this is not the case for all courses since assessment can also be on a continuous basis.
In some cases, we will liaise with the Awarding Organisation to organise your examination for you. However please note that depending on your chosen course, you may have fees to pay and have to make the arrangements directly. If this is the case don’t worry, we will provide you with all the information you need to make your exam arrangements.
