Content

The ABE Level 6 Diploma in Business Management (Ofqual Qualification number 603/1600/7) consists of six units:

Compulsory units:

  • Leading Strategic Change
  • Business Strategy and Decision-making
  • Developing International Markets
  • Business Ethics and Sustainability

Plus two of the following optional units:

  • Strategic Stakeholder Relationships
  • Corporate Finance
  • Corporate Finance

Entry Requirements

You must have suitable academic and or work experience such as:

  • A Level 4 or 5 qualification or equivalent and or
  • Evidence of at least three years in employment with managerial responsibilities.

and you should be able to demonstrate competence in English language (if English is not your primary language) by attainment of one of the following (or equivalent):

  • Minimum IELTS 6.0
  • Cambridge ESOL – Cambridge English Advanced (point score 176 or above)
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) – 61-67
  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) – B2-C1

What is included?

The units are taught through our Teaching Zone by a mixture of recorded and live lectures coupled with essential reading texts and exercises. You will have a personal tutor who is a subject expert whom you can contact if you have any questions.

As it is delivered through our Teaching Zone you also gain free access to our Manager’s tool kit and effective learning skills sections along with entry to the student lounge discussion forum.

ABE initial registration and examination fees are included . Please note that if you do not complete the qualification within one year, you will need to renew your student membership with ABE at your own expense. Resits, resubmissions, appeals or other examination/assessment charges are not included.

  • Critically evaluate an appropriate range of development options on which to base business strategy
  • Apply techniques to support recommendations for strategic decision-making in different contexts

Developing International Markets

you will:

  • Critically analyse the key characteristics of the international globalised business environment
  • Critically evaluate strategic international marketing opportunities
  • Appraise the suitability of alternative market entry methods as part of the formulation of an international strategy
  • Examine and justify relevant marketing strategies within different cross-cultural settings, applying them to real life case studies

Business Ethics and Sustainability

you will:

  • Critically evaluate differing approaches to business ethics
  • Analyse the core principles of corporate social responsibility
  • Critically evaluate the opportunities and challenges for a range of organisations to develop ethical business practice through corporate social responsibility policies and reporting
  • Analyse the core principles of sustainability in relation to businesses
  • Analyse the influence of organisational culture and leadership on business ethics with a focus on marketing and human resource management

 Strategic Stakeholder Relationships

you will:

  • Critically assess an organisation’s stakeholders in order to determine their strategic influence and impact in relation to a particular project
  • Critically review the process of engaging with stakeholders and developing an appropriate engagement plan
  • Develop relevant communication approaches and messages that would be used at each stage of the stakeholder engagement plan
  • Recommend how to deal with the stakeholder resistance that might be encountered with a project’s objectives and the way a project is planned to be implemented

Corporate Finance

you will:

  • Critically analyse the factors that influence capital structure decisions and strategy
  • Critically evaluate alternative sources of finance to ensure that financing decisions reflect the strategic objectives and strategic circumstances of the business
  • Critically evaluate approaches to the calculation of the cost of capital that take account of techniques for the valuation of equity and different types of risk
  • Critically evaluate the strategic objectives and environment in which the business operates in order to decide on appropriate advanced investment appraisal techniques
  • Critically evaluate contemporary issues in corporate finance, including the importance of ethics and corporate governance, and the role of corporate finance in the market for ownership and control

Advanced Project Management

you will:

  • Critically analyse the organisational and strategic management issues concerned with project and programme management
  • Analyse the importance of the human aspects of project management, including leadership, management, teamwork, knowledge management and communication
  • Critically discuss the strategic responsibilities of a project/programme manager
  • Critically review the role of partnerships in project management

How do I study and how long does it take?

There are six units in total and each one should take 200 hours total qualification time, which is the total time you are likely to spend studying including all your time spent on listening to the lectures, reading the online information, reading the workbooks, using the software, undertaking the exercises, discussions with other students and completing the assignments or revising for the exam. The qualification is taught online, so you can start at any time as you are not restricted by term times. You will receive your log in and password for the Teaching Zone as soon as we have received payment. All you need is Internet access!

The time it takes in practice is up to you, and will vary depending on your commitment and how easy you find it to study.

How is it assessed?

The following units are assessed by a three hour written exam in June or December:

  • Business Strategy and Decision-making
  • Developing International Markets
  • Business Ethics and Sustainability

The following units are assessed by a 4,000 word assignment in March, June or December:

  • Leading Strategic Change
  • Strategic Stakeholder Relationships
  • Corporate Finance (will be assessed by exam from January 2020 onwards)
  • Advanced Project Management (will be assessed by exam from January 2020 onwards)

Please note that the exams will take place in the UK so you must be able to travel to the UK to sit them. Assignments are submitted electronically and are not restricted to any country.
