Entry Requirements

Foundation Certification prerequisites

Open entry, although you ideally should have some management experience and a good standard of written English.

Practitioner Certification prerequisites

You must have Foundation Certification, Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or IPMA Level A, B, C or D to be eligible to take Practitioner Certification.

What is included?

The course is taught through our Teaching Zone by recorded audio lectures coupled with essential reading texts and exercises.

As it is delivered through our Teaching Zone you also gain free access to our Manager’s tool kit and effective learning skills sections along with entry to the student lounge discussion forum.

The fees are simply for the online course. If you want to obtain the PRINCE2 qualifications you will need to purchase the manual, which costs £75, (Practitioner only, not Foundation) and the exam entry fees of £160 for Foundation and £200 for Practitioner.


By the end of this course, if you want to, you should be able to go on to obtain Foundation Certification or Practitioner Certification.

Foundation Certification confirms that you have sufficient knowledge and understanding of the PRINCE2® method to be able to work effectively with a project management team within a PRINCE2® environment. Practitioner Certification confirms that you have sufficient understanding to apply and tailor PRINCE2® in a scenario situation.

How do I study and how long does it take?

There are a series of sessions that should take you around 35 hours, which is the total time you are likely to spend studying including all your time spent on listening to the lectures, reading the online information, reading the workbooks, undertaking the exercises, discussions with other students and revising for your exam (if you want to take one). The qualification is taught online, so you can start at any time as you are not restricted by term times. You will receive your log in and password for the Teaching Zoneas soon as we have received payment. All you need is Internet access!

The time it takes in practice is up to you, and will vary depending on your commitment and how easy you find it to study. 35 hours is roughly:

  • Over two months – 30 minutes per day or 4 hours per week or 18 hours per month
  • Over one month – 1 hour per day or 7 hours per week or 35 hours per month

How is it assessed?

Foundation Certification is assessed by a 75 question closed book one hour multiple-choice exam.

Practitioner Certification is assessed by an 80 question open book (PRINCE2 manual) two and a half hour multiple-choice exam.
